“Indigenous futurism and artistic experimentation”

Poet and novelist Sigbjørn Skåden will talk about how the term ‘indigenous futurism’ emerged. He will present some of its identifiable genre characteristics leaning on definitions in Grace L. Dillon’s book Walking the Clouds: An Anthology of Indigenous Science Fiction (2012). Skåden will present some examples of his own artistic projects approaching the genre of indigenous futurism.
Sigbjørn Skåden is a Sámi poet and novelist that debuted with the long poem Skuovvadeddjiid gonagas in 2004. He has published several works since then, among them a poetry collection, a children’s book and novels such as Våke over dem som sover (2014), which received the Havmannprice, and Fugl (2019). In addition, Skåden works with different performative and multidisciplinary projects, and is part of the collective Ferske Scener that hosts performative meeting places titled Blodklubb.
